Hampton Roads is an area steeped with naval history. Our current boat, ‘Southern Comfort’ called Portsmouth, VA home prior to joining us in the deep south last year. The Hampton Roads Powerboat Association (HRPA) has posted a Google My Map which highlights key boating destinations in their area.

The confluence of the Monongahela and Allegheny rivers into the Ohio at present-day Pittsburgh is an area rich in North American history and commerce. The rivers continue to serve the as economic highways connecting the mid-west to the Mississippi and on to the Gulf of Mexico and beyond. Adding to the economic value of the waterways is their extensive use for recreation.

A nautical delight, Block Island offers a range of sights and activities over it’s 10 square mile area. Most boating visitors make landfall at the aptly named Old Harbor or New Harbor (Great Salt Marsh) towns. The island is home to 2 lighthouses and many other historic buildings.
